Five years ago this week, Canada was rocked by the explosive announcement from the Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc First Nation claiming the “discovery” of 215 unmarked graves at the former Kamloops Indian Residential School. The story ignited a firestorm: flags at half-mast, accusations of genocide, church arsons, and billions of dollars in new spending. It became the defining moment in Canada’s modern push to rewrite its history through the lens of shame and guilt.
True North stood apart from the beginning. While most of the legacy media rushed to amplify the unverified claims without skepticism, we published two bestselling books – Grave Error and Dead Wrong – that examined the evidence with clarity and rigour. These books, edited by C.P. Champion and Tom Flanagan, cut through the hysteria and became essential resources for Canadians seeking truth over propaganda on residential schools. They both became Amazon best-sellers.
Now, on the fifth anniversary, the truth has largely come out: not a single confirmed human burial tied to the original Kamloops announcement has been found. Despite years of ground-penetrating radar scans and bold public statements, no forensic excavations have produced the mass graves that shocked the world. Similar unverified claims at other sites have followed the same pattern. The evidence to date simply does not support the extreme narrative that was pushed so aggressively in 2021.
Yet here is the scandal: even as the facts have emerged, the vast majority of Canada’s legacy media outlets still refuse to correct the record. They buried follow-up stories, ignored dissenting voices, and continue to prop up a narrative built on emotion and political utility rather than evidence.
This is exactly why True North exists. We stand unapologetically for truth – even when it is inconvenient, even when it invites hostility. It’s at the heart of our commitment to upholding free speech.
If you want to understand what really happened at Kamloops and why the dominant story was so badly distorted, we urge you to read Grave Error and Dead Wrong. Both books are available now on Amazon and remain among the most important works published on this issue. Support the truth. Share these books. Canada needs more voices willing to speak it.
