On May 14, thousands of Canadians from across the country marched on Parliament Hill for the annual National March for Life. Organized by Campaign Life Coalition, the event brought together people of all ages, backgrounds, and faiths to call for legal protections for human life from conception until natural death. The march coincided with the anniversary of the 1969 Omnibus Bill that decriminalized abortion in Canada, adding extra weight to this year’s gathering.
Speakers including CLC National President Jeff Gunnarson, Slovenian pro-life leader Aleš Primc, and American advocate Rebecca Kiessling reminded the crowd that “love does not quit.” They highlighted the importance of consistent laws that protect the vulnerable, including those conceived in difficult circumstances. The day featured liturgies at Ottawa churches, a rally, and a march through the streets, with participants urging MPs to hear their voices while Parliament was in session.
True North supports the fundamental right to life and the principle that every human being deserves protection under the law. Events like the National March for Life demonstrate that many Canadians still reject the idea that some lives are disposable. In a country where MAiD continues to expand and abortion remains largely unregulated, public witness like this remains essential.
We will continue to follow these efforts because defending life is inseparable from defending a moral and coherent society. When governments drift toward treating human life as a matter of convenience, it is vital that citizens push back with clarity and persistence.
